Artist Christian Padilla presents a thorough study of the early years of the career of new figurative artist Fernando Botero Angulo (b. Colombia, 1932) and the different influences that consolidated his later work. Little is known of Botero's artistic process that gave way to the origin of his interest in colors and oversized proportions, the consolidation of his unique style and his accomplishment as a recognized name all over the world. Padilla explores how the young artist assimilated, refined and reinterpreted the influences of pre-Columbian and Spanish colonial art, folkart, as well as local and international artists and movements, particularly the European impressionism, the abstract expressionism and Pop art created in New York and the political work of Mexican muralist Diego Rivera, to create his exceptional plastic language.
